Yet another weird SF fan

I'm a mathematician, a libertarian, and a science-fiction fan. Common sense? What's that?

Everything Which Is Not Forbidden Is Compulsory

According to left-wing collectivists, we must take care of the refugees. According to right-wing collectivists, we must take stop anybody in our society from taking care of the refugees. (If you hire an illegal alien, you can be penalized.) Both sides agree that everything which is not forbidden is compulsory.

Maybe we should let people make their own decisions.

Libertarian Jews tend to impose an obnoxious symmetry on things that are not symmetrical to make themselves seem like some objective outsider. The vast majority of political leaders call for the hostile refugees to be housed in places where the vast majority of ordinary peaceful people have called for them not to reside. Very few people have said that voluntary housing is wrong. On the contrary, the consevatives are saying that if you want to bring someone into this country, you'd better house them in your own house. Don't foot the bill on someone else. If you advocate for open borders then start with your own living room. Invite them on in. Be my guest. I don't think there's a right-winger on earth who would have a problem with that. Bring the hostile people into your own house, not mine.

Don't advocate for open borders only to have someone else shoulder the costs that immigrants pose to society.

That's called being a parasite. But libertarian jews are usually blind to their own parasitism.
