Yet another weird SF fan

I'm a mathematician, a libertarian, and a science-fiction fan. Common sense? What's that?

A Suggestion for a Moral Principle

Whether a person has rights is independent of anybody else's emotional state.

This has implications for both unwanted children and unwanted aliens (better known as illegal aliens).

In related news, the saying “You're nobody until somebody loves you.” looks less sappy and more horrifying.

I was inspired by this annoyance.

There's a fallacy of the excluded middle all over the atrocious blog you linked for us: It isn't a choice between killing an unwanted fetus and beating an unwanted child. There is such a thing as birth control, and such a thing as adoption. Not to mention such a thing as keeping it in your pants.

The left wing mindset does not accept that "keeping it in your pants" is a valid option.

To say that it is means that anyone who does so is being chaste, responsible, and other good things, and it is also to say that those who do NOT do so are being unwise, imprudent, and short-sighted.

This latter conflicts with leftists' views of themselves.

It's easier to ignore reality than it is to face an uncomfortable truth (or, worse yet, be forced to modify one's behavior in a way that would deprive one of short term gratification), and thus members of the Left immediately DO choose to exclude the middle.

The thing is that unwantedness is not a good thing for a child, and that having a child is not like picking up an extra carton of milk. The sad fact is that once abortion became legal, the crime rate went down -- unwanted children don't grow up to have happy lives, and wanted children are not neglected and abused. How hard is that?

Promoting planned parenthood and keeping abortion
safe, legal, and rare -- it's good policy.

(And as for "keeping it in your pants" -- those who have that option are rarely those who become pregnant.)

Preventive execution?
