Yet another weird SF fan

I'm a mathematician, a libertarian, and a science-fiction fan. Common sense? What's that?

This Story Has Been Undercriticized

There's apparently been an oil spill on the coast of Lebanon:

BEIRUT: Lebanese authorities are working to put together an emergency clean-up operation after the most disastrous oil spill in the country's history, an Environment Ministry official said Tuesday. The leakage of more than 10,000 tons of heavy fuel oil from the Jiyye power plant, due to repeated air strikes by Israeli warplanes on July 13 and 15, has stopped but resulted in the pollution of as much as a third of the Lebanese coast.
According to the left side of the blogosphere, this is the ‘worst environmental disaster’. My fellow wingnuts have ignored it. I can think of several criticisms of the left interpretation of the story:
  • Wasn't there a far bigger oil spill in Gulf War I?

  • Didn't the Persian Gulf ecosystem recover?

  • Were there rocket launchers located at the power plant?

  • Has the total amount of oil been exaggerated by Hezbollah supporters?

  • Some of the coverage sounds like Boopsie protesting the bombing of baby ducks. (This comes from a “Libertarian Communist blog,” so you already know the blogger is confused.)
